The Secret Kitchen- Review

A great dining experience is always priceless. I love food and good food not only elevates my mood but also keeps me happy. I recently visited a high end restaurant in my city. It is known as “The Secret kitchen”. For the uninitiated, I live in a city called Vadodara in India. It is a great city with a lot of happening cafes and restaurants.

So, back to The Secret Kitchen. I was there for lunch and I cannot explain the delicious flavors and foodgasm they created for me. First of all, the interiors of the place is super classy and modern. The mood created is wonderful and it has great and positive vibes. Not to forget, they have a great waiting area where you can click Instagram worthy pictures.

If, I come to the food part, there were some world cuisines and traditional dishes, all with  different flavors and zest added to it. The food was freshly cooked and looked simply great. I loved the innovation added in the serving style.

I started with the Chinese hot pot soup which had some great flavors in it and what I loved more was the bowl they served it in.

Next up was a marathon of starters and appetizers. I started with stir fried pasta. Yess!! that was a super new thing for me too. I have heard of stir fry vegetables but pasta was something new. They were cooked really well and served with white and pesto sauce.

Then, I hogged on something called the Italian affair which consisted of garlic bread, pizza slice and pasta in red gravy. The best part of it was the unique serving style.

Also, I tired the delicacy of South India. They are balls fried and served with tomato chutney. They were so delicious and crispy. With those I tried the dhokla fondue as well, which is a Gujarati dish. It was served with lentils gravy. I liked the concept and idea behind this dish as it was something traditional that was presented in a different way.

If I talk about mock-tails, this place is the place you need to be. The serving style is again unbeatable and the taste is just super. Actually, I am not a person who likes mock-tails as they are always too sweet for me. I end up having coke anywhere I go. But, I simply loved the non- alcoholic red wine here which almost replicated sangria. It was such a delight to have that drink. I would urge you to not miss this one, if you are visiting.

After, I was done with the starters, they gave me shots which were injected of some good orange flavor (I guess). This was to change my taste buds before starting the main course. I just loved this concept and it is a delight to watch that someone is so passionate about food and pays attention to little details like this.

The main course consisted of Indian delicacies which included two different curries. The first was called lucknowi paneer butter masala and the second was barbecue vegetables in pistachio gravy. It was well cooked and super tasty. This was served with four types of Indian breads. They have a lot of varieties for the same in their menu and you can choose your preference. I tried the laccha parantha.

Lastly, I had the most mouth watering and delectable dessert. It was known as the chocolate explosion but I would like to call it happiness on a plate. It is a chocolate ball filled with brownie and vanilla cake. The waiter basically breaks the ball and places vanilla ice cream around with a lot of toothsome chocolate sauce. I was so full by the end but couldn’t help but eat more as it was so delicious.

The staff is well trained and amiable and they maintain a very good hospitality. I also happened to meet the head chef and the owner of the restaurant – Chef Aanal Kotak. She is a young and dynamic lady who is in love with cooking. She explained that she makes the masalas and some other important ingredients in an another kitchen herself and hence she named the restaurant as “The Secret Kitchen” which I thought was very unique and appropriate.

My recommendations consists of the red wine, stir fry pasta, panneyaram, lucknowi paneer butter masala and obviously the chocolate explosion.

I would definitely recommend this place for any of your celebration, or if simply you want to be out and have a good dining experience because they do not only serve food but create an experience for you. Visit it soon if you haven’t already and are in Vadodara and also for the ones who do not live in Vadodara, do not miss it if you travel to this part of the World anytime soon.

Sending some love across
